Hidden Histories

Hidden Histories is a collection of historical stories from across the Central Alliance District area in London. The book takes you on a fascinating journey through the Central District Alliance footprint, including Farringdon, quaint Clerkenwell, St Giles, Bloomsbury and bustling Holborn. It also includes a pocket-sized illustrated map to capture your imagination about the generations of Londoners who have walked these streets over the centuries.
Designed and art directed by Hutch Agency with commissioned illustrations from Dan Brown and Edited by Dave Hill, Founder of On London, who helped develop the book. Vic Keegan, a distinguished writer of London history, has shared stories that reveal the neighbourhoods’ living history. Articles, gathered here, will lead you to gems like the historic St John’s Gate, where monks once cared for pilgrims, and the Titanic connections of a Bloomsbury hotel.
Each neighbourhood in Hidden Histories has a special feature from a local guest writer:
- Holborn: Paul Crozier, Holborn Community Association
- St Giles: Reverend Phillip Dawson, St Giles in the Fields Church
- Bloomsbury: Rosemary Richards, Bloomsbury Festival
- Clerkenwell: Claudia Chalmers, Museum of the Order of St John
- Farringdon: Gavin Guild, Old Sessions House
